Calgary Fire Recruitment will be opening their intake and accepting applications between June 1st and 30th. The Red Cross Advanced First Aid course fulfills the application requirements for enrollment. This course is committed to be delivered.

Welcome to the Advanced First Aid course. This course, is approved by Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) in Alberta under the Canadian Red Cross; it is equivalent to an OFA 3 certificate in British Columbia and meets Canadian Standards Association criteria ((CSA) Standard Z1210-17 – Advanced). If you are interested in becoming a Firefighter, Edmonton Fire Recruitment and Calgary Fire Recruitment and surrounding jurisdictions accept this course as a recruitment prerequisite.
The Advanced First Aid course integrates theory and practice to prepare you for emergency response. This course focuses on assessment and treatment considerations within the context of primary and secondary priorities. Primary concerns, revolving around life threats, center around recognizing and treating problems that lead to Shock. Secondary problems, may not be immediately life-threatening, but remain concerning. Sign and symptom recognition of medical illnesses and traumatic injuries form the foundation around patient care delivery.
This course prepares the student for CPR at a BLS level which includes airway management, Oxygen Administration, use of a BVM and other relevant BLS considerations. Breath for Life engages the student by providing thought provoking discussions and by taking a hands-on approach.
