Breath for Life Inc offers the National Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Program which educates you to an EMR’s scope of practice. This course is primarily for Fire Fighters and Law Enforcement personnel who do not require registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics. This course is a pre-requisite to EMS training at other institutions.
Breath for Life has been offering the Emergency Medical Responder program since 2007. This course integrates theory and practice to prepare you for emergency response. This course focuses on assessment and treatment considerations within the context of primary and secondary priorities. Primary concerns, revolving around life threats, center around recognizing and treating problems that lead to Shock. Secondary problems, may not be immediately life-threatening, but remain concerning. Sign and symptom recognition of medical illnesses and traumatic injuries form the foundation around patient care delivery.
This course prepares the student for CPR at a BLS level which includes airway management, Oxygen Administration, use of a BVM and other relevant BLS considerations. Breath for Life engages the student by providing thought provoking discussions and by taking a hands-on approach. You will enjoy the level of passion, insight and interest demonstrated by your instructor as you are lead to success. Please review the Course Topics.
Breath for Life provides a supportive learning environment to help build confidence. Students will become familiar with their scope of practice through assessment and treatment protocols. A consideration of various medical illnesses and traumatic injuries will ensure that sign and symptom recognition prompts correct treatment decisions.
This course is approved by the Canadian Red Cross, and is accepted by most Private and Public schools as a prerequisite into their EMS programs. Breath for Life is no longer affiliated with the Alberta College of Paramedics and this course does not qualify you for registration with the College.
