Breath for Life is one of the Canadian Red Cross’ IDP centers. Please read more about Instructor Development Centers.
The Canadian Red Cross Instructor Development Course empowers candidates to effectively teach Red Cross First Aid/CPR courses. The course presents educational learning theory and teaching principles to help the participant understand the basics of instruction. The Red Cross has laid out a Five Step Process (please review) that must be completed to achieve the Red Cross Instructor certificate. Course Details
Pre-requisites:
- You must take an Intermediate Standard First Aid/Level C CPR/AED course, through an approved Red Cross provider, before registering into the Instructor Course.
- Breath for Life also offers this course: Intermediate First Aid
- You must be 18 years of age
- Your Intermediate Standard First Aid certificate must be current within 1 year of the Skills Development Session. If your certificate is not current or not Red Cross you must take the: Intermediate Standard First Aid/CPR Level C renewal course.
Process:
- Step 1: Pre-requisites and Skill Evaluation Session
- Step 2 & 3: Online and In-class Sessions (34 Hours or 4 days)
- Step 4: The Teaching Experience is scheduled once the online and in-class steps are successfully completed. You will meet twice with the Teaching Experience Supervisor to discuss lesson plans and other details.
- Step 5: Certification
- Please note: Breath for Life reserves the right to reschedule this course if enrollment is less than 4 participants
Cost:
- Step 1: Pre-requisites and Skill Evaluation Session ($200.00 + GST)
- Step 2 & 3: Online and In-class Sessions ($600.00 + GST)
- Please register online. Step 1 must be successfully completed before registering into Steps 2 & 3.
Teaching Experience Only Option ($350.00 + GST)
- This option is only available if you have completed the prior steps and just require the teaching experience.
- All completion documents need to be submitted to breathforlifeinc@shaw.ca prior to your registration.
- You will meet twice with the Teaching Supervisor to discuss lesson plans and other details. Arrangements are made by contacting breathforlifeinc@shaw.ca
- Please select a Standard First Aid date and then email breathforlifeinc@shaw.ca to make your request.
1) You hold a current First Aid Instructor certificate through a recognized agency: St. John’s Ambulance, Life-Saving Society, or Heart and Stroke Foundation. This may exempt you from completing Step 3 of the process: Discipline Specific-Classroom Component.
2) You hold a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Trainer certificate or a Bachelor of Education Degree. This may exempt you from completing Step 2 of the process: Fundamentals of Instruction Classroom-Component.
3) You hold a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR instructor certificate but have not taught the minimum number of courses required for recertification . This may exempt you from completing Step 3 of the process: Discipline Specific-Classroom Component.
Please note: There are no price adjustments for the transfer option.
