Welcome to the Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor Renewal course. Breath for Life is one of the many Canadian Red Cross’ IDP centers delivering Instructor Level Courses within the community. Please read more about Instructor Development Centers. Professional Responder Instructor renewal Candidates (fact sheet link) must have a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor (FAI) certificate.  A minimum of 1 course must have been taught, over a three year period, corresponding to your specific certificate designation. Relevant courses include: Advanced First Aid/EMR, First Responder and BLS which includes O2 administration and Airway Management. A Red Cross regional update (ie. First Aid Revisions 2025), must be completed to teach Workplace (OHS) courses in Alberta.

Registrants must have a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor certificate. This is a separate certification and is a prerequisite.

Professional Responder Course Details:

• Time:  8AM to 230PM
• Duration:  6 hours (in-class)
• Cost: $250.00 + GST = $262.50  (Price also includes a Digital Recertification workbook)

• Please note: The Professional Responder Instructor Renewal Course is offered based on minimum numbers and Breath for Life reserves the right to postpone if the minimum numbers have not been met
• Breath for Life commits to delivering the course that you register into. Online registration is required. Please email breathforlifeinc@shaw.ca if you have questions. Minimum numbers must be fulfilled to deliver this course.

Professional Responder Course Specifics:

• This course is delivered in-class at Breath for Life’s location: 4443 – 99 St NW, Edmonton.
• This course is Discipline Specific: Professional Responder and includes the following instructor designations: Advanced First Aid/EMR, First Responder, and BLS.
• Skill checklists are no longer a requirement unless you are renewing during your 6 month grace period. Please note:  The grace period is an extension during which Instructors are not allowed to teach during this period of time.

Professional Responder Course Completion Criteria

• Demonstrates practice and didactic success (assigned in class)
• Adheres to the Canadian Red Cross Standards of Behavior and a Group Charter (created in class)
• Attends and participates actively during the course. Success in this course is dependent on a willingness to participate.
